Do you feel like something isn’t quite right with the world? Do you see all of the violence and chaos, the animosity and persecution, and wonder what the point of all this is? Is there hope for a new creation? Does God actually love us? Is Jesus really the savior of the world? Wasn’t He just some guy who taught some nice things? What’s so special about him?
These are the kinds of questions explored in a song title, “Is He Worthy,” from Andrew Peterson’s new album, “Resurrection Letters Vol. 1. Like most of the songs in this three part project, it’s steeped in scripture and conjures up a deep longing for our heavenly home. I like the structure of this in particular because it’s rather unique for an Andrew Peterson album. Every verse is a call and response building up to the chorus.
The last chorus is particularly powerful and paints a picture of the Kingdom of God to come. All peoples from every tribe and tongue all gathered around the throne of God giving praise and glory to Christ our king. Christ, the Son of God was indeed a worthy sacrifice. He lived a sinless life and perfectly satisfied the justice required to reconcile God and man. “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” Amen.
