Pipe Tobacco Review: Oriental Silk by Cornell & Diehl

Pipe Tobacco Review: Oriental Silk by Cornell & Diehl

My upcoming box for The Tin Society is featuring a blend from Cornell & Diehl called Oriental Silk. Smoking this blend has been such a pleasure for me, and it’s quickly becoming one of my new favorite non-aromatic blends.

Classified as an oriental blend, it’s a mixture of Bright Virginia ribbon, Bright flake and Turkish tobacco with a subtle hint of Perique. Immediately upon lighting this blend you pick up the natural, tangy, grassy sweetness common for high quality Bright Virginia. The Turkish plays a nice supporting role offering notes of fig and something almost floral that I can’t quite make out. These flavors are extremely well balanced, and the small amount of Perique offers just a bit of spice. This is such a smooth blend, and the name Oriental Silk is the perfect way to describe it. The nic hit was mild, which I like, and I haven’t had any trouble with tongue bite. I highly recommend Oriental Silk to any Virginia lovers looking to add a little spice to their cellar.
